What happens: urethral thread pain

The OK Prostate Chip is a small device placed in the urethra (the urine passage) to act on the prostate. An attached retrieval thread (a backup cord) runs from the chip through the urine passage. Wire connectors can link chip parts and help hold them in place. Thread pain and bleeding followed prolonged use: January 2018

In an entry published in January 2018, a customer described problems with a custom extended short chip. After about 12 hours, urine looked darker; repeated use brought visible blood clots, pain, and blood clots at the next ejaculation. The customer suspected that pulling tightened the thread against a right-angle bend in the urethral wall, and Mr. Okada agreed this was possible.

An entry published in May 2018 reports attachment-strength tests after a customer's thread detached. Threads released above 2kg on a chip bought 7 months earlier, and above 1.5kg on a newer medium-length chip.

The report warned that thread tension above 1kg could tear the urinary passage and treated stretching as a warning against further force. Mr. Okada directed attention to preventing excessive pulling.

Thread digging in complicated arrowhead chip retrieval: February 2024

In an entry published in February 2024, Mr. Okada described an arrowhead-shaped prototype intended to resist slipping out. He reported difficult removal and feared that an exposed thread would dig hard into the urine passage. Although he reported no bleeding, he described pain during urination afterward.

He chose a covered tail (a tube covering part of the attached thread) to soften contact. Mr. Okada warned that the arrowhead design was dangerous and unsuitable without detailed knowledge of individual fit.

Wire pain prompted public withdrawal of the original cable: June 2022

An entry published in June 2022 announced that the plain 4-line cable was discontinued from public sale after pain reports. Its replacement was a 6-line support cable, offered at the previous design's price.

Mr. Okada still allowed exceptional custom requests for the original design, while warning that repeated extreme bending would eventually break it. He asked customers to consider the new 6-line and reinforced 6-line choices.

In an entry published in August 2022, Mr. Okada tested a 2mm tube around the thread between connected chips. A screw-shaped support (an extra chip intended to help hold position) sat behind the main chip. After about 3 days, he reported gentler contact and suspected less damage from thin thread.

The trial option carried no extra charge and covered gaps of 2–6mm; standard fitting remained a future intention. Mr. Okada favored this spring-like covered connection for the thread-contact problem.

An entry published in October 2024 describes pain when part of a bare 0.3mm wire loop emerged at the urethral opening. Coated metal threads addressed wire digging in: September 2025

In an entry published in September 2025, Mr. Okada chose silicone coating for nitinol (a nickel-titanium alloy) used as thread. He said general products would no longer place bare nitinol directly against skin; thin coating over the entire thread carried no extra charge.

Thicker coating cost ¥500 (about $3 at ¥156 = $1, rate as of 2026-09-04) excluding tax per 5cm, and he believed it reduced digging in further.
