In an entry published in April 2024, Mr. Okada described a design that no longer required a specially drilled second chip. A shape-memory wire (a springy connector) joined the pair. He said every chip type could occupy either position, including pairs made entirely from blue chips or stainless steel.

In the April 2024 entry, Mr. Okada blamed earlier tangling problems on the flexible connection folding and allowing the chips to overlap. He believed a wire that resisted folding would prevent that problem from obstructing removal. His explanation involved a pulling force on the first chip and a pushing force on the second through the wire.

However, he thought complete movement into the bladder would make a pair with a central thread attachment difficult to retrieve. He proposed an end hole for retrieval thread (thread intended for removal), believing this could permit retrieval even after the whole assembly entered the bladder.
